So I was driving to work the other day when none other than TLC came on the radio with "No Scrubs."
I might be the biggest dork ever but I still love them. Was saddened when "Left-Eye" passed, and I still get super excited when I hear their music. I was a huge fan when they came out.
I started thinking then how far music has come along, how the sounds have changed, the style, the beats, and what is big now compared to 10 years ago. So I did some research. 10 years ago, these are the artists that blessed us, (or lack there of,) with their talent:
-We saw the first (but definitely not the last) of Slim Shady a.k.a Eminem. I personally hated him when he first came out, because his songs and voice were super obnoxious. It wasn't until he became angry that I liked him :)
- Destiny's Child was still a threesome and not just Beyonce.
-We could find Blink 182 running across our TV screens naked.
-Both Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears came out with their first songs...
-Will Smith was trying to make us "Get Jiggy Wit It" at every school dance/birthday party/bahtmitzvah that we went to
AND
-Justin Timberlake was rockin' his bleached-blonde curly-Q hair. He sure has come a long way.
BACK TO THE FUTURE:
-Our rap music isn't so gangster these days as it was in the '90's. It has more of a "pop" feeling to it, and I don't think any of the artists are true gangsters like Tupac or Ice-T were.
-Our pop music isn't so "bubblegum teeny-bop" as it was in the '90's either, (except for the likes of Miley Cyrus or Taylor Swift, but who really listens to them anyways?)
-House music has evolved and become really big. It's often played in clubs and can be found remixed with hip-hop on the radio as well. (LOVES IT!)
I just thought this would be a little fun to compare/contrast how our music has changed. I am sure there is a lot that I missed considering all the "really cool bands" we have.
But now I have to get back to my life :)
XOXO

Ahh...I totally agree with this. I would have to say that I enjoy the music culture of the 90s much more. I like to go back and reminisce, it's comforting. Oh no! Are we turning into our parents who like to bring out their old records from the 70s! Whatever!
ReplyDeleteCheck this link out, it's one of my fav 90s songs:
